Uniforms (Here we go again!)

Now that the Reserve army has been reduced to two basic uniforms (combats and DEUs) with exceptions of ceremonials and mess dress, would somebody please explain the rationale behind the idea that combats should be used as a garrison uniform. I'll agree that they are comfortable but even the best turned out soldier still looks like he/she should be field bound not desk bound. What happened to the 'professional soldier' and all that it implies? I'm not entertaining the idea of another garrison dress, only the professional appearance of an organization that has suffered too many negative blows to it's image already.

If you are Combat Arms then your service dress should reflect your 'readiness' to apply your trade...the same applies to other trades as well. If you are a support tradesperson (I hate that term) then, for the purposes of your readiness to complete your task, you should be dressed appropriately. If this means that you travel to your place of employment in a well turned out DEU and you must change for your trade then so be it. We have taken the 'easy' path for so long now that we are expected to take the path of least resistance. I respectfully suggest that this practice cease and the appearance of professionalism raise its' superior head.

I realize that this will, no doubt, piss someone off that has to change more than once in a single work day. So what? Has your pride in the trade of your choice diminished to the point where you can only wear combats? What the hell are combats for? Why do you think that they are called "Combats"?
