Subscriber Status Board Question

Was playing around today and found some new fun with status' on FB.  Tried it out here and it works (look at my status underneath my name if you're not sure what I might be talking about.)  However, when I look on the forum homepage at the 'Subscriber Status Board', I see:

mudhut mich !ʎɐpoʇ ÊŽzɐɹɔ sÉÂ.

I don't profess to be a complete tech/geek, so I don't understand why it would work in one place but not the other.  Mike??

It's all about character sets... the forum software handles them pretty well, the front page doesn't seem to like them as much. I haven't been able to find an easy answer so far...
