My reserve unit had a Change of Command parade today, and I was struck by the fact that our Colour Party uses specially presented Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk I rifles instead of C7s. I imagine we have been using them since the No. 4 was replaced by the FN, though I'm not sure when the rifles were presented.

Anyway, I was just wondering if there are any other units out there that use older kit like that for their Colour Parties?

I think also that the Calgary Highlanders were the last unit to have a Union Jack for a Queen's Colour (until it was replaced in 1990 with the Canadian flag). I think it's kind of too bad that so many of the old traditions have gone by the wayside. At the time of the presentation, the bearer of the Regimental Colour wore a turban in uniform, and women were (I believe) just being granted the right to wear kilts. Personally, I had no problem with either of those events (if a woman is doing the same job as a man, she should dress like him - that goes for the dickies they got rid of a few years ago).

Just thought I would throw out these random thoughts for discussion - hope the points haven't been touched on here already.
