What I think makes a lot of people uncomfortable is the fact that there are those who would
prosecute anyone for failing to turn-in a fellow serving member. Are we to be snitches? What
message is sent to mbrs? I think it's obvious that the CO in that case should have been siezed
and locked up if need be. Too often we look in askance at higher HQ to resolve local issues. A
very drunken supervisor who's not in his right mind relinquishes authority just by the fact that
he can't be expected to exercise proper judgement.
Every adult is responsible for her or his own actions. We have a National Defence Act and
Code of Service Discipline to maintain discipline. If someone is to be charged in a case like
this, it should be for breaking a fundamental principle of leadership, not for not being a snitch.
