For observer,
With respect, you're responses are now clearly in the "bullshit" range. The issue here is not whether the CO or anyone else should be charged for drunkeness, it is about whether a deputy at any level should report his boss for being pissed. Depending on the details, the answer is yes, and no.

Let's not try to over-intellectualize this particular case. I know both the CO and DCO in question and in your average unit the appropriate answer in similar circumstances is for the DCO to grab the CO firmly and say, "get the fuck into bed, Sir" and with the help of others, put him there if need be. I'd expect this to happen to a CSM, a Tp WO or a crew commander...given "benign" circumstances. Most of us have been on both ends of this stick.

I do agree that if any "dangerous" circumstances existed, it's another story.

At issue here is whether the DCO needed to report the CO, just because military law says everyone must report offences. Good God, have we lost our common sense? Perhaps we should look at whether the DCO did the right thing overall. Maybe he was effectively in control for as long as he needed to be. I don't know this of course, but hopefully it will be one aspect of many should these charges be pursued. Let's wait and see what they make of this.

Don.
