Short answer: it depends.

Longer answer: many, many variables influence the specifics; you could start by reviewing the MFSIs in conjunction with any orders / admin direction you've been given.

We don’t have papers yet, just seeing what the group of us may be entitled to such as if it’s just TD, non taxed, hardship etc.

Thanks I’ll just hold out then. I did read some of the policy’s but pretty grey on non named Canadian operations, this will also be my first.

If it's just TD, you're likely not going to get tax-free.  Risk/hardship will obviously depend on where you're going as well.  If it's somewhere like the US, you'll prob likely just get meals and incidentals, and the meal rate will drop after 30 (I think) days.

Are you just going somewhere outside Canada for a TD?  Are you going to participate in operations?

It’s not looking like we will be part of a named Canadian operation (although they are trying), US op most likely. Staying on a us base outside of North America for up to 6 months. We will be performing operations, trade related.. if that makes sense.

Friend of mine was sent to a country in which there was an active named operation on a restricted posting for 1 year. He was employed with that named operation, but his chain of command was the OUTCAN unit. He filed a grievance and Comd CJOC agreed, giving him the allowances, tax free status and entitlement to the medal.

Moral of the story is go there, see what you're doing and if there's grounds to grieve. Expect an uphill climb if you're not in a named operation AOR and directly supporting their efforts.
