Did my LDA today. I'm only a Corporal, but our CO decided that everyone in the unit would take the extended training - a good move on his part, I thought - because it is hoped we will all someday become leaders. The CO also expressed the opinion that anyone with two hooks, not just someone with a leadership course, is a leader.

I was skeptical at first, but after SHARP training, and an hour long briefing on sexual harrasment/assault by the JAG, and now this, I kind of like the idea that everyone is responsible for their own actions, and everyone now knows what their rights and responsibilities are. And the CDS was right - anyone who won't change with the times can get the hell out of the Forces. It's nice to be treated as thinking individuals, IMHO.

It's sad that high school kids don't get any kind of citizenship training anymore, and it's good to see the Army taking such an interest in promoting the ideals of citizenship. Perhaps the motivations were less for general principle and more a reaction to all the negative press we've been getting (I honestly don't know), but the end result is desirable - and I think the Forces are changing for the better.

Opinions?

Dickey, are you out there?
