Unfortunately, since so few PMs and MPs (hell, even Defence Ministers) have ever served as much as a single day in the Cadets, much less have operational military experience...well, it does look pretty bleak, doesn't it.
I just wonder if maybe we ought not to worry more about those things more directly in the national interest - like protecting our sovereignty and preparing more for aid to the civil power. I don't see how getting our soldiers killed in regions that want very much to fight each other to the death is in the national interest.
Ha! I guess that was your original point, wasn't it - clearly defining goals for our military. Sorry for being so slow in the uptake!
