Hitler had the Reich Arbeits Dienst, which was mandatory for German males - they put youth right out of high school into meaningful work - highway construction, agricultural. They also learned military discipline, drill. And it was a precursor to their mandatory military service.

It would be nice to see Canada giving some direction to youth in the same manner - even if they were just out planting trees, it would be better than hanging out at 7-11 or shoplifting at Walmart. I'm sure many would opt for military service rather than that sort of thing.

But - you have to realize that our military would be diluted with a bunch of draftees. Look at the German Army - many units of which are something of a joke. It's the same in other European armies as well.

We talked in this thread about reputation. Quite possibly, if we had a "draftee" army, what little professional reputation we have left would be eroded away to absolute zero.

How would you get around that, patriot?
