You are correct. In fact up to 36 of Canada's LAV III are being lent to the US to
conduct trials in Ft Lewis WA for approx six months this year. My understanding
was the US Army was going to use LAV III in their 5 "medium weight" brigades as
an interium measure for two reasons. The first is the majority of their deployments
have been for "peacekeeping" style operations and secondly, they want to use it
until they decide what the "Army after Next" will look like. Strategic Planning, I love it.

An interesting arguement is whether a wheeled vehicle fleet is cheaper to operate
over a tracked fleet. Officially, a wheeled fleet is cheaper (in my mind, it makes
sense to me)! However, everyone I speak with say the venerable Leopard works
best (and cheapest) when it is used. In the POR from Kosovo, it was stated the
Leopard had a no worse VOR rate then the Coyote or Bison (both much newer eqpt).

Anyone have any comments on this?
