I believe you are correct in saying the VOR rate was similar but the thing you're missing is the routine maint required by the Leo. A proper run through the check-list could take several hours depending on which list was required that day and I remember the days of tightening the end connectors link by link, breaking track to remove a link after it had stretched, bouncing on the torque wrench to try to get enough leverage etc etc with no great fondness. DI'ing eight wheels on a LAV III is almost a non-issue compared to that.

There is also the issue of the actual length of time required prior to a rebuild. I believe a Leo is supposed to be totally rebuilt in Longue Pointe after 15,000 km (although vehs I worked with were at 18-20k and still no refit in sight) and this has to be factored into the total cost of the machine over it's life span. Leopards had mileage restrictions the day they entered the fleet due to this. In fact, during one Bde Ex they low bedded the BG Leos back to the start of the Battle Run in order to decrease the cost yet there was more ammo than they could shoot!
