When my Corp was doing Tag Day (raising money) I was talking to a guy and he asked why we have to do fund raising and why we are not totaly supplied and given money by DND. does anybody know why? Where are all our taxes going? he says.

Quite simply it has to do with the size of your cadet unit. If you had a large corps. the year before, your cadet unit will have a larger budget to work with this year. Furthermore, I was under the impression that the Lord Strathacona Trust Fund was the source of money being used to run the Army Cadet movement. Has something changed with that?

I heard that it was because the cadet movement is like an "army based version of boy(and girl) scouts with a large millitary theme",
but thats only what i "heard".

It isn't supposed to be like "Boy and Girl Scouts". You're sponsored by DND and a reg force or reserve outfit!!! Don't ever say that out loud near a serving member or you'll get an earful. Tell your friends that are in Boy and Girl Scouts that they're wimps and should go join the Army Cadets (you could possibly get your Airborne Jump Wings, they simply can't!!!).

the patriot has said what I have heard too. We do get money from the government but if we want to do more in our corps, such as March Break trips, we have to raise more money.

Tagging is also a way to recruit new members to the cadet corps.

Tonight I have a chance to get promoted! I'm crossing my fingers for Acting Sgt.!

The CF provides alot of support to the cadet movement. Who do you think pays for the CIC officers that run the unit? The uniforms that cadets wear? The officers and NCMs that run the provincial and national cadet structure on a day to day basis. Who pays for the cadet summer camps? Who pays for the equipment cadets use for weekend training? Who pays for the armouries that cadets use?

Remember the focus of cadets is citzenship, leadership and physical fitness and not to make a kid into a boy or girl soldier/sailor/airman/airwomen. It is a youth movement similar to scouts and guides, 4H, etc. However most of the things you do in the cadet movement have a quasi military focus on the three aspects of cadets. It is not and has never been supported for the sole purpose to be a "recruiting pool" for the regular and reserve units. Hopefully young men and women will want to continue their involvement and continue on with the affiliated regular or reserve unit.

Cheers,

There are some who have found time for both Cadets and Boy Scouts. I would guess we have one here.

In order for my mother to sign the papers for Army Cadets, she made me be a scout for a year because my grandpa was. Six badges later I joined army cadets!

No promotion
