Over here in Lotus Land (no snow no snow no snow!), tho I am but a humble Army Bin Rat on a Naval ship, we have certain rules about "walking out" dress. If you are actively involved in a PT program, you may wear sweats, but you must be running, roller blading, or biking the second you hit the jetty (or the main road on base). You must put forth a request to the Coxn (like an RSM for the Navy) and request IN WRITING to wear PT gear to and from work because you are doing one of those said activities. Notice I didn't say anything about power walking - that doesn't count (don't get me started on that one, tho).

And people spy on you to make sure you are doing PT to and from work - don't drive your car in wearing sweats or some old crotchety chief will get your sticker number, track you down to your ship, and tell on you. It has happened! The sheer ubsurdity of that speaks for itself!

Anywho, doesn't the base make the rules about this sort of thing? I for one am right now wearing sweat pants from one ship and a sweater from another - it's comfy, warm, and I don't plan on going out tonight - not even to the liquor store (thank God for duty free!), but if I was, I'd put on some ratty old jeans at least!
