Hasn't this topic hit a sore point!!

Is it possible that when a soldier is not in uniform, his/her identity as part of a greater whole is shaken? Could it be that without the group identity, they aren't that sure of themselves and therefore become 'just another bloke'? (too much psuedo psychiatry for my taste)

There was a time in our not too distant past that required all sodiers to have a civilian walking out dress that was on the order of 'Business Casual' (shirt, tie, jacket/sweater with an ironed slack or pant). With a Quality of Life issue in the making, perhaps that the wearing of casual dress (track clothing) be restricted to Base areas and that any other locations require a higher standard of dress.

Mr. Eamer; you make a good point but I think that the comments were primarily regarding the dress in the mall or other outside locations. Would you wear the broken in, comfy kit you spoke of to shop in the local supermarket or go for other personal trips? Your call.

All the Best

PS: It would be nice if more folk signed their real names to the posts so that we might appear to have a professional 'air' about us now that the eye of the media is so pressed up against us, Eh?
