A CO can not ignore a redress of grievance - s/he can only support it or not support it. However, the redress can be sent to the next level of review. Sure, a CO can exert some pressure on the person who submitted it, but that does not prevent the person from pushing the redress on to the next level. I heard (I've been out for a few years) that now a redress goes directly to the authority who can actually do something about the issue.

If one does nothing further after the CO's review of the redress, then you have to accept the consequences. If one really wants to address a problem one should push the redress through the chain of command. Sooner or later, someone in the chain will investigate and some action will be taken to either sort out the issue or the indivduals concerned with the redress.

If one is worried about his/her career being adversely affected - it shouldn't be, particularly if the redress is viable. If one ignores the problem, the problem will continue to grow.

The chain of command is there for the soldier to exercise. It may be a slow process, but it will work if exercised.
