You know, you can flog a dead horse all you want and it is highly unlikely that it will get up and do what you want it to do. So is the MacLeans' editorial staff really as stupid as they seem when they come out with articles extolling the lack of any virtue regarding the 'intense investigations' of the military rape victims.

Bullshit! They're trying to sell magazines and the poor class B Private is being used again (only this time with her consent). I've spoken with a few of the members of the Womens' Army Corps (WW2 veterans) that told me that a lot of the women in todays army may have it rough but that is primarily due to the lack of moral ethics on the part of their 'superiors' (read leaders). In their time, any unwanted advances were dealt with in a very abrupt (and painfull) manner by their male counterparts and the advances ceased immediately. An attempt of rape was usually the cause of an unsolved AWOL or an accident during training. Brutal perhaps, but very effective. (And no, I'm not basing my entire tirade on the comments of a few).

There is likely to be all kinds of screamin' an hollerin' about 'this is not then, it's now!' but I, for one, believe that everything new is not neccessarily better...there are some lessons learned in the past that we should give careful review of just to ensure that we haven't missed something important. Was anyone on this net present for the last military flogging on a parade? Did it have the proper effect on the rank and file? Zero tolerance is a very effective methodology when it comes to dealing with QR&O; infractions.

The really painful part of all this is that the victims are not being satisfied by the lame attempts of the investigative services because they are more a thorn in the side of our military than a bullet in the brain case. The attempts of MacLeans' to bring their plight to the forefront of canadian minds has almost become just another irritant in a long line of irritants. Nothing effective because we have leaders that care nothing for their troops and more for their careers. Want to prove it to yourselves? Try accessing data that could help support a member of your platoon or section that is outside of the 'normal' channels and watch the shit storm that develops. A leadership that is effective is a leadership that can withstand (and learn from) any assault on their fronts that compromise the "Big Picture".

Go ahead...beat that horse!!!

All the Best
