Boyd, you have to keep current, A Battery 1 RCHA is currently serving as a Gun Battery in Bosnia as we speak. They will be replaced this fall by B Battery 1 RCHA and once again in a artillery role. 1 RCHA (albeit in an infantry role) was to deploy to Op HARMONY in 1995 prior to the mission being cancelled. Agree with your comments on not being an "all singing, all dancing" military. This is not a bad thing, but you have to maintain the basics (that being the basic elements of combat arms). The Res F is not structured or resourced to adequately provide this level. Not a fault on their part, simply reality. I don't necessarily agree that we don't have enough infantry to do the job. 3 PPCLI (just depl to Bosnia in Feb 00) had not been overseas since 1993. 1 PPCLI which went to Kosovo last year had not been anywhere since 1994. 2 PPCLI will return to Bosnia this fall after last having been there in Jul 1997 (three years ago)....Where's the overtasking? What I do think we have is a management problem, there are still PPCLI Sgts, WOs and MWOs who have never been overseas (besides Cyprus)... Look forward to your reply.
