I've talked to plenty of veterans. From what I know they weren't particularly fit at the
outset of war.

Fitness is one important aspect to fighting, it reduces stress on the soldier and allows for
better performance. Most Reservists that have been in for a while work-out in some
manner or another, swimming, playing soccer, running, skating... It takes a while of learning
it the hard way that every time you go on course you'll be expected to be in shape, and
so you just make it part of your routine. There used to be a recruiting poster, "In the
Reserves, you have to do it on your own."

Whether a soldier is male or female makes no difference. There are many males who for
whatever reason are unfit, uninterested or incapable.

Our Army is not perfect. It is a volunteer force. Those that are in, presumably are there
because they want to be. It behooves all of us to give them the best possible training.

The shortened courses and trimming of POs from CTPs is a systemic problem, related to the
cost of running courses. Unit resources are limited.
