On the plus side, as the Russians proved by racing from Bosnia to Pristina Airport in Kosovo,
surprising everyone, wheels have got great strategic mobility. They also require far less
maintenance and are cheaper to buy, and can be made to swim easier than snorkeling a tank.

Not that there aren't down sides, as you've mentioned. I haven't talked with any Armoured
people about it. However, getting newer equipment that's well-designed and built is usually
welcome.

I thought the plan in the late '80s was great. To get new tanks, and keep 60 Leos for Armoured
Recce, and convert the rest to AD platforms, and Engineer vehs. That would have been swell.
A soldier can dream, can't he?
