I am assisting my classmate research the world war I experiences of her grandfather, John David McKay who served in the 42nd Bn in World War I. What regiment to the 42nd Bn belong to?

He was awarded the DCM and it is my understanding that is a significant award, so I am interested in finding more about the unit lineage.

I have requested his service record, but you may be able to tell me about the 42nd before they send me the record.
