Operation VERITABLE was the prelude to the Rhine River crossings, and involved First Canadian Army. I believe Nijmegen had been captured during Market Garden the previous September, and if fact First Canadian Army spent the winter of 1944-1945 in positions known as the Nijmegen Salient. There are a number of excellent books you can consult - CP Stacey's being the official history, but also see Denis Whitaker's RHINELAND (I believe).
