Famous Canadian Regiments

To all who inquired,
The information and illustrations on the military figurine series
"Famous Canadian Regiments" is now displayed at http://www.servicepub.com
Anyone who for whatever reason is unable to access that site my email me
directly. The first figure is a Sergeant of "The Royal Regiment of Canada."
The next in line is a Corporal Assault Pioneer of the Royal Canadian
Regiment (RCR).
Sunday last the RCR staged their annual drill and pace stick competitions
(The Rowney & Boyle Trophies) on parliament hill. This was a fabulous
demonstration of precision drill which thrilled all who attended. At the
beginning of the pace stick portion of the programme the sky literally
opened up and drenched the competitors and judges. The Royals however
carried on as if it were bright and dry. I thought that the pace stick
performance was absolutely outstanding. These lads had this down to a fine
art. There was no place for the old soldier addage, "while in my day." This
is one old soldier who has never ever seen it done better. I had the honour
of being the official photographer for the event and while wisking about met
a beautiful older couple (tourists) from holland. When I told them it was
the RCR who were perfoming their eyes lit up. They remembered the regiment
from the war and heard their parents speak of the "Royals" often. I was
impressed by the fact that this old couple stood in the driving rain and got
totally drenched watching this competition. How I wish that more Canadians
felt the same way about our army as do the Dutch.
Tonight I watched a press conference put on by The Canadian Alliance. At the
fore was Art Hanger & Jim Hart both of the Alliance and ret'd MGen Addy and
Col Sean Henry. This conference made it clear what the Alliance's position
is in regard to National Defence and particularly the restructuring of the
Reserves. They are talking about a total reserve force of some 60,000 and an
increase in reg force as well. As much as this is at this stage political
talk, it was impressive. Of note was the notion that in the case of the
forces that the charter of rights and freedoms cannot take precedence over
the military requirement. Much talk about the fact that social engineering
and it's quotas has undermined the whole concept of credible defence as it's
placed above the miliary requirement. Essentially "the tail wagging the
dog." It's what has been discussed on this forum over and over coming to the
same conclusions as most of this list's most credible contributors. Perhaps
they are reading our inputs?
