In my opinion Monty's plan was, although risky, quite sound based on the info available to him at the time. I am quite certain that he would not have suggested commiting lightly armed airborne troops against an overwhelming armoured force. He didn't know the Germans had decided to put Panzers in Arnhem for rest and refit. The people that ordered the Op to go ignored that little bit of int now didn't they. Throw in all the individually minor setbacks (weather, stiffer opposition than expected by 30 corps etc)throughout the duration of the Op, and the result was not quite what the plan envisaged.What do you have against Lord Louis?
