Okay - on Friday afternoon I was told that the Minister of National Defence had announced that the pilot's widow will receive the remainder of the bonus.

Background was this: CF pilot signed up, and agreed to stay in the Forces - in return, he was to receive a "signing bonus", payable in three installments. Tragically, he died while flying a CF SAR helicopter.
Initially, somebody in the CF made the decision that his widow was not entitled to the remainder of the bonus, since the pilot was no longer able to fly for the CF.
The Minister of National Defence decided otherwise, and the pilot's family will receive the remainder of the payments.
I saw the initial story in the National Post, and on Friday a friend showed me a press release.
Hope that answers your question.
Dileas.
