Our defence White Papers have never ID a need for a Marine force. Our soldiers have trained in amphibious operations with our allies so an amphibious cabability is there if it is needed. In Marine corps around the world there are differences:
The RM are basically Sea or heliborne commandos. They have no amour or heavy guns. Their heaviest weapons are the 81mm mortar and the Milan anti-armour missile(Trigat will replace it). They are a commado force. Canada had a similar thing in the Airborne.
The USMC is different. They are are an army, navy and airforce unto themselves. They generall operate in larger numbers than a Commando force though they do have their own SF units. The total strength of the USMC is around 120 000. Whereas the RM are around 5-7000? in number and much more specialized. Any corrections?
I suggest you speak to a recruiter from the infantry in Canada. Your attitude towards our armed froces may change. Paratus
