I have to agree with the last two posts. There are a lot of "ghosts" out there and in a lot of units. It is very easy to be critical without being constructive. The media has had a field day with the military without us bashing ourselve needlessly. The comment that started this thread related to an item in the media and it happened to relate to the Vandoos. This stuff is "old hat". The media has only just latched onto it ! Mr McGonigal if you think back, you will no doubt remember that we had "professional" jocks in quantity. They played hockey in winter and ball in summer. The only time the unit saw, and used them as soldiers was at the end of hockey season and just prior to ball season. Fortunately, this is not the norm anymore, mainly because we do not have the bodies available. Hell we don't have the bodies available to do the necessary things anymore. Obviously the CO of whatever battalion of the "Vandoos" involved in this article, has the troops available or a compelling reason to permit the time away from battallion duties to conduct this training. If you think about it, is this type of training that far away from "soldier stuff"?
