Secondly I will say again as in my post above - why would you want to die defending a country that you owe nothing to, and that frankly dosent give a damn about you?! If you are all gun-ho and wanna blow off rounds and throw grenades then by all means give the Canadian Army a try first and also like I mentioned above We have strict rules for enlisting for a reason..because despite what many say(reporters newspapers etc, blah blah) the Canadian Army houses some of the best trained military personel world wide. And Im sure you have heard also about Canadian soldiers doing more with less...with thats a showing of the dedication and and hardwork we give to this country. As far as the cutbakcs well dont take that seriously. I mean of course I will always stick by saying that we as Canadian's and Canadian soldiers need a minister of Defence and Prime minister with some military experience so they understand just what is needed to keep an army running like it should. Also I will be the first to admit, as many here will agree or atleast should... America of course is known as a powerful Army because it builds its economy around its military. If our Ministers would get a clue and realize how many jobs would become available putting more funds toward the military. For instance..you always need someone to make canteens, someone to build tank tracks someone to make shells, someone to make uniforms, and someone to roll out more tires for our apc's, etc.
Remeber though, for the most part american soldiers them whom I've met and as someone stated above about the marine coming home being all up on the american flag, they seem brainwashed into military service, and also from what Ive seen and which is true they spit out many more american soldiers at a quicker rate with not nearly as much MENTAL training as we do. They would rather make up for the lack of training in there soldiers with hitek weaponry, but dosent mean there soldiers are as well discplined, trained or as friendly and easy to get along with as we are.
Look at it not like you would another military but as something different. Look at the Canadian military more as a Family. I think you will find that in many militaries due to there applicants and soldiers - like someone above mentioned teaching an eighteen year old punk with a grade 8 education how to pop off rounds from his m16 because it looks cool in the movies.
Here in Canada you will find Intelligent individuals who are military bound for the chnaces to TRAVEL world wide (not just in times of war mind you) meet many EXCELLENT people and learn very VALUABLE trades skills (depending of course on what trade your into)
Now Ive really done nothing but shoot the shit here, but I think also if you read closely to what I have written above you will see that the Canadian Army has more to offer then what you hear about in the news. Besides reporters have to bullshit about something to get paid, so why not bullshit about somehting everyone knows exists. And that is the problem! There are bad apples everywhere you look, but that dosent mean the farmer stops pickin them because a few bad ones out of the 20 baskets he already picked got in the way.(read between the lines :-)
Anyhow, like we have all mentioned, read into some more Canadian military history and be proud, and consider this...in some countries you are forced to do military service, and not given the option to critize ones own home defence. And btw, you dont read much about Canadian military history in damn school history books because three quarters are produced in the states...go figure.
