I think that you'll find that the Legion has fairly stringent standards. I am quite certain that they will not accept anyone who does not have some form of combat experience...
Think about it, with all of the small brush wars going on in the world today, why would they take someone with no experience, from one of the richest, and thus softest, countries in the world?
Something to look into before you make your way to Marseilles.
