MWG; While I have always wanted what the Yanks have had for a good long time, it took a contributor to this page (Mark Bossi) to point out basically what Mr. Ryan stated. If a small business owner is hiring (not a particularly good bet these days) which one will he pick? If he chooses the non Reservist, how do you prove that his/her choice was discriminatory and how do you enforce such a system. You can't and never will.

Last year during Recoup, I booked off more time than I should have and ended up paying out of pocket for my participation. Is this a whine? Not F**king likely! Just a demonstration of the silly things that Reservists do to do the thing that they have CHOSEN to do.

Regarding mandatory time off...I don't believe that there will be a question about this: either it will be enacted with a declaration as an Order in Council or it won't. The majority of Reservists will show up anyway.

Bottom line is that the Reserve, for all its' best intentions, will keep getting it in the ass for all eternity...and we will always have our line serials filled with dedicated citizen/soldiers that will step up to take the challenge. I will never, ever be able to change the way that Reserve soldiers are deployed in this country. I will, however, never fail to respect one, either.
