The Directorate of Army Training is preparing to examine the requirement for and to develop updated field firing training packages. These could be used to train personnel who have not received formal field firing training, or as refresher training.

I have been invited to a working group as part of this DAT initiative. In preparation for this I developed some PowerPoint presentations on making weapon templates and safety traces.

HTML versions of these presentations are included at my home page. I'd be thankful if any interested members of the list would review them. I'd welcome comments on the presentations or any other aspects of field firing and training personnel to conduct field firing. I will take any comments received to the working group for submission to the DAT party.

In particular, I think that observations on combined arms field firing and the integration of various types of support (tactical helicopters, etc) would be valuable, as most training in this area remains corps specific (perhaps too much so).

The presentations can also be downloaded as "zipped" versions of the original PowerPoint files. Feel free to download and employ them if you find then useful. Let me know by e-mail if there are any difficulties with the site.

Thanks in advance.
