I would think that now, power goes straight to an officer's head. Yes, I agree that there was probably a time when a suby would have committed suicide rather than "NOT" follow the friendly advice of an RSM. In terms of the Adjt disciplining his/her fellow officers;
that totally makes sense, but an RSM still has the power to make a judgement call in the DEPORTMENT side of things. If I am correct, it is the senior members of the Drill Cadre that instruct officers during all four phases of Phase Level Training. How odd that quite a few officers forget that the minute that they become senior officers.
