The P226 reportedly served well in the hands of Navy
SEALs under the extreme conditions of desert warfare.
I was reading that the Marines formally requested to
drop the Beretta M-9, due to many problems including
slide cracks(!),and feeding malfunctions due to the
fact that the 9mm rounds have to rotate as they move
upwards in the magazine and sand got into the
mechanism, casing the weapon to jam after a few
rounds. Let's be thankfulthat the CF is not getting
this as a replacement for the aging Hi-Powers.
However, "if it ain't broke don't fix it." Why can't we
get brand new ones? FBI HRTs swear by their custom
models. Is age the only reason that the Hi-Powers are
being scrapped? as a side note, What about
the fact that the .45s still in service in the US are
decades old?
Thanks for your time.
