Despite various urban legends regarding the adoption of lanyards/whistle cords, historical proof is lacking. There is an entry in the 2RCR Officer's Minute Book held at the Regimental Museum in London. Dated 20 Jul 1953, it simply states that "lanyards will be worn with battle dress." There are times when a whistle cord is just a whistle cord.

Regarding reciprocal honours in Korea between 1RCR and 1 RCHA, the second volume of the Regimental History (The Royal Canadian Regiment, 1933-1966, by G.R. Stevens), on page 257, reads as follows:

"Another pleasant ceremony followed when A Battery, 1st Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, were presented with brass plaques to be worn on the shields of their guns. These pieces, which had served The Regiment so doughtily in Korea, were also given permission to bear in perpetuity the Regimental cipher. As a reciprocal compliment the Commanding Officer of The Regiment was given the right, also in perpetuity, to inspect the guns of this battery at any time. The 50,000th shell of the campaign was fired with due ceremony and its case was inscribed and presented to First Battalion as a dinner gong."

No specific date in 1953 for the ceremony is offered. I would appreciate knowing your source for confirmation.
