I've read a little about this national missile defence
system that the States is proposing. Now, the 2ic of
NORAD, Canadian LGen George Macdonald, says the alliance
between Canada and the U.S. could be in jeopardy, because
the Americans are assuming we'll take part in it.

Gen Macdonald, says without Canadian support, the U.S.
might run NORAD on its own. The Americans are going to
test another missile this spring to see if a $13 billion
program should go ahead.

If nations such as North Korea, Iran, or Iraq try to
launch a nuclear missile, Macdonald says the Americans
have assumed Canada would support a system that could
deal with that threat.

I personally can't really foresee this as being a threat.
There exists, of course, a possibility of such an occurrence,
but I think that the overwhelming retaliation for launching
a missile against North America would be enough to keep it
from happening. This seems like a lot of money to blow on
something that in all eventuality will only benefit the
military-industrial complex that will design and build it.

Thoughts?
