Having served in the Gulf and UNPROFOR I have to disagree with your comments... Taking rounds in Bosnia was rough but at least you could generally tell where it was coming from and take action (get under cover/return fire etc). Sitting at TOPP High waiting for the all clear to indicate that the latest Scud attack wasn't aimed at you was entirely different. You didn't know if it was really coming at you, and if it was would it have an HE or NBC warhead. Just sitting and waiting can screw with your head worse than actually having rounds kicking up dirt around you.
