Some of the history buffs that frequent this site may be able to help you more but what I am about to tell you is based on info passed down and not anything I have read as I was once tasked with gathering this info this is what I was told .
The sash worn as we do came from a practice used to assist in carrying a stretcher however the sash also was worn around the waist and was a bright colour to designate and make leaders recognizable on the battle field there is some that say the crimson colours represent blood shed by comrads and as far as the number of tassles go I don't remember if there is any signifigance. I hope that little bit helps you may be able to get more from Terry Seavers on the LAN he is with the guards in ottawa now you will find him in the address list Good to hear from you Rick.
