Money is a factor. But, you'll never get in rich in our Army.
When you actually look at how much time you spend training,
especially on crse or unit exercises, the financial return
is quite small. Some might join for the money, but you'd
never stay in for it. It's too small a return. After you're
in there's all kinds of extra kit to buy, mess bills to pay,
and so on.
Initially, I'm sure a lot of people look at it as tuition money.
Then they see how much work it is. Truth is for the effort required,
if you put it into something else, it would most likely be more lucrative,
and would require less of your time. However, if you really like soldiering,
and it gets into you, you don't really want to be anywhere else. 8-)
