Anything cooking since to 'Death List' has been leaked to the press? Are the units named truly prepared to be almalgamated into the various streamlined militia orgs that the brass sems to like to play with?
The End is Nigh (as they say)! The recruiting slots that are available to the Regiments can not replace the attrition that is occuring every year and no one is standing up on their hind legs and screaming bloody blue murder.
End shot...smaller units, more support staff, reduced effectiveness and VIABILITY!!! It's pretty hard to justify calling a regiment a 'Regiment' when the full compliment of staff is the size of a Company. Do you really think that the rank of LtCol is required to run a Coy? Not even in Fantasy Land. A well trained (lots of time in rank and experience) Captain can (and has) run Coy's of 100 personel with Warrants as CSM's. The Brits, Aussie's and Kiwi's have had it done to them over the last 15 to 20 years; what makes you think that it won't happen here? Better to be prepared for when it does happen than whine about the inequities of why it shouldn't happen. Tradition has its' place and honour is the soldiers code. Politicians have no code or honour and we are at their whim. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure that it won't be long before the unusual will become the usual.
