The 1 CDN Inf Div was activated in Kingston, Ontario, Canada (just north of Watertown, NY)approximately 1954. If memory serves me right it was then composed of four brigades: 1 CIBG in Soest, Germany, 2 CIBG in Camp Petawawa, Ontario (100 miles west of Ottawa), 3 CIBG in Camp Gagetown, New Brunswick (Oromotoc just outside of Fredrickton), 5 CIBG in Camp Valcartier, Quebec. Over the years compsition of the Divison changed as the world politics and Canadian political will changed The Div was first exercised during the 1970s at Camp Gagetown. At that time it was the largest single troop movement by Canadian forces since WW2. Troops came from 1 CBG in CFB Calgary, Alberta which had it's Regiments scattered from Chillawack, British Columbia (north of Washington state) to Winnipeg, Manitoba (center of Canada north of Minnesota), the Airborne Regiment in CFB Petawawa and 5 RBC in CFB Valcartier along with elements from Mobile Command Headquarters CFB Montreal, Quebec where 1 CDN Div was part of the Command Headquarters.Hope this helps.
