To try and explain it here, though, you'll need a set of boot bands, available in unit kit shops, Canex's, and most surplus stores. Regular rubber bands will do in a pinch though. I suppose it can also be done with the drawstrings in your combat pants, but I think that looks sloppy.
Basically, you take the boot band (an elasticized band with a break in the middle, joined with two hooks) and wrap it around your ankle/calf - just above where the top of your combat boot will be. When you put your trousers on, tuck the very bottom of the trousers up into the band. Once your boots are on and tied, "blouse" the bottom of your trousers overtop the very top of the boot, just enough so you can't see your socks anymore. And for pity's sake, make sure your socks are grey wool.
I don't suppose this is very helpful - if anyone else can express it better than I, please do.
Remember; part of being in the Army is learning how to act as a team. Checking with a buddy or with someone more experienced is usually the best place to start. If you don't know something, don't be afraid to ask.
Good luck, and I hope your experience with the Forces is an enjoyable one.
