I'm not a cop either, but the tort law that I've studied
leads me to believe that my original post would be non
actionable as I'm not a CF-18 piolt, nor do I have any
provable contact with one. I also offered to provide
emotional support for the sadness they would feel in such
an event. This means that since I anticipate a "bad"
reaction to this event, I'm in the clear.

An interesting side note to threatening people, in legal
terms, is to use a "disarming statement". When threatening
a person with physical violence, use a statement like:
"If you weren't such a miserable little runt, I'd punch
you in the nose.". By pointing out in the statement that
you are not going to actually hit the guy, you're off the
hook. Remember that next time you're thinking of mouthing
off to somebody with a badge or that has access to lots
of lawyers.
