I'm trying to trace info./people who knew my uncle - Lance Sergeant George Meadows MM who was killed in Italy in December, 1944. Kathleen Swann <[email protected]>

can anyone help me please? I am looking for my father. He was a Canadian soldier in WW11, and drove tanks. His name is Robert, known as Bob. I would guess him to have been born about 1920. Bob had a liason in 1946 with a lady from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. I was born March 1947. He had a good friend called Thomas James a fellow Canadian, they lost touch in 1945/1946. Thomas cannot remember Bob's surname. It is possible that Bob served in the 3rd Canadian Infantry. Dad I was told that you were killed in 1946, I know differently now.

My great-grandfather, Murdo MacLean, was in WWII, but he never went overseas. I would like to know what he did, if anyone can help. His little red book doesn't give much information. He joined in 1940 and was a warrant officer by the end of the war. He lived in Montreal but was from Scotland (Isle of Lewis), he also served with the Seaforth Highlanders in Scotland before he immigrated to Canada in the late 1930s. I would like to know what regiment he was with and what he did exactly. If anyone could help, that would be really great thanks Albainn Gu-Brath

My father served in the Royal Navy during WW2 in ship LCT 700. On D Day his ship carried troops of the Canadian 3rd Infantry either 7th or 2nd Armoured Brigade. I am not too sure of the facts as my dad is now 78 and has suffered a few strokes. One thing I am sure of is the date 6-6-1944. Dad's ship carried the troops to JUNO beach, MIKE sector on that and many other days. I would like to contact / know about a young serviceman, I believe he was known as 'DUSTY' Rhodes. (not sure of the spelling). He was in LCT 700 on D.Day and before he landed he gave my dad his jacket and a sum of 'Invasion money'. I have no further details. I would also like to find a photograph of LCT 700 if anyone has such a thing after so long. It would mean a great deal to my father. Thankyou all for the great sacrifices you made for us, the younger generation. I can be contacted at 20, Gwerneinon Road, Derwen Fawr, Swansea SA28EN South Wales. U.K..

Hello, I posted this before, but this is with all the errors fixed. Sorry. :-) I am looking for information on a man who was in Terneuzen, The Netherlands in the fall of 1944. He spent time at the home of my boyfriend's father. We have been trying to locate him for about 10 years now, and have had no luck. The only details we have are: Name: James Finley (could be spelt many different ways!) Age in 1944: 18 (born about 1926?) Army Status: In 1944 he was in the 3rd Canadian Army, 156th Infantry Regiment (which we think was a british regiment). He was a Cook in the Canadian Army Services Corps. His rank was "Sergeant". He was in Terneuzen in 1944, and was at the school on the Grenulaan (which is a street). He cooked for the HMS personnel of the landing crafts who crossed the Westerschelde to liberate Walcheren. The following are his movements as we know them: 1. Came from Gent (Belgium) with the 3rd Canadian Infantry Divistion (the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa). 2. Cooked for all the troops crossing the Westerschelde: 9 oct 2021 at 00.02 hour: The Highland Light Infantry of Canada (9th Inf. div); The North Nova Scotia Highlanders (9th) LCT's (light landing crafts). 9 oct 2021 at 9.30 hour: the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders (9th). 3. Then James left with the 3rd Inf. Div. (Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa) to Breskens. Then he came back to Terneuzen to cook for the next troops crossing the Westerscheldt. 4. 27 oct 1944: The 4/5th Royal Scots and the 6th Cameronians, both of the 156th Inf. Brigade, 52nd (Lowland) division. They left with Buffaloes in the early morning. 137 of these crafts were manned with the 5th Assault Regiment, Royal engineers and the 11th Royal Tanks, both of the 79th Armoured Division. 5. 27 & 28 oct 1944: Buffaloes kept crossing the Westerscheldt with the 156th Inf. Brigade. 6. 28 oct 1944: 157th Brigade crossed the Westerscheldt. Does anyone have any idea where I can go to look for this person ? We have checked the listings of people who died in the war, and there was no listing for him. Thank you.

He retired at the end of WW11 as Captain Denis McCarthy, Royal Canadian Atillery, (I could be off on the exact termanolagy here, I know that he was in the Atillery. I have one of his hat badges and the atillery piece has the wheel that spins.) last serving in Halifax, NS, posibly as a CO of the harbour defences? Two hard bits of info that I have in my position are: a cigar can made from an atillery shell with the inscription, "S.M.I. McCarthy from the Officers & NCO's 1st & 6th C.G.A. 1923". Also a group photo with the title, "R.C.A. (c.a.) Sergt's Mess Halifax, N.S., 1924". In the photo my grandfather's picture is identifyed with, " B.S.M. (1) D. McCarthy". I also know that he was an RSM from pre WW11 photos. I would like to know / have his military history, decorations, awards or any of his history. Any info you can forward to me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much for your time. Sincerely, Dave Gouthro

My mother, maiden name: Louvaine Acker from Kindersley served not overseas but in Regina taking her training in Wainwright, Alberta, she often speaks of a French girl she worked with while in Regina and had kept up contact with her when returning home, but lost that contact with her, she knows her first name to be Collette and the spelling of the last name we are not sure. My mom knows it started with a DeTierdne( sounds like De Third nae) but of course that is not right, Mom thought she lived up in Northern Saskatchewan. We would like just some knowledge of Collette, if she moved or if anyone knows her and would beable to give us some kind of information on her. Thanks.

We met this year at Ft.Knox Kentucky when they were there for training, and we got to be good friends. We exchanged some military clothing and I wanted to let him know that I recieved it.Some of the other men in my unit have never trained with men from other countries and they enjoyed every minute with these men,and we hope to be able to train with them in the future. We want to say thank you for the memories and we hope to see you all again soon.

Hello, I am looking for information on a man who was in Terneuzen, The Netherlands in the fall of 1945. 4. 27 oct 1945: The 4/5th Royal Scots and the 6th Cameronians, both of the 156th Inf. Brigade, 52nd (Lowland) division. They left with Buffaloes in the early morning. 137 of these crafts were manned with the 5th Assault Regiment, Royal engineers and the 11th Royal Tanks, both of the 79th Armoured Division. 5. 27 & 28 oct 1945: Buffaloes kept crossing the Westerscheldt with the 156th Inf. Brigade. 6. 28 oct 1945: 157th Brigade crossed the Westerscheldt. Does anyone have any idea where I can go to look for this person ? We have checked the listings of people who died in the war, and there was no listing for him. Thank you.

Terneuzen, ZE The Netherlands

Hockey Night in Canada is producing a brief Remembrance Day segment to be broadcast on Saturday 11/11/2021 -- we seek to locate Canadian soldiers who can recall listening to recordings of hockey broadcasts while in combat overseas -- and can tell us of the effect on morale that hockey from home represented -- we also seek to find veterans who fought or served alongside well-known NHL stars during the Second World War or other theatres -- this will be a very brief (3 minute) report -- and will need to be completed quite quickly -- any replies before Tuesday 7 Nov. would be appreciated Allen Abel CBC-TV Sports

Joan Devitt <[email protected]>

I am looking for William Harvey Devitt, a corporal in the Canadian Army who was based in Brighton, Sussex, England from about 1945 - 1947. He married Ethel Wilkinson, who was referred to as 'Joan'. She lived in St James Street, Brighton with her mother and two sisters. He went back to Canada on his own because Joan didn't want to leave Brighton. She had a daughter, Joan Devitt, who was adopted - that is me. I never met my mother, but I have met other relatives. No-one seems to know much about William Harvey Devitt and I would dearly love to have some information. If anyone has any information about him at all or knows if he is still alive, please contact me. He would be about 80 years old now. With grateful thanks. Joan Devitt e-mail: [email protected]

Hi, hopefully someone can help me. I'm trying to find information for my Grandmother. Her younger brother, Allen Lloyd Blank was born September 9, 2021 -- her name is Ivy Blank (then married Gorden McPherson) and he was in the Lincoln and Welland Regiment when the War was on (she isn't sure if it was 1938 - 1940 or 1940 - 1944) and he was injured and sent to Sunnybrook Hospital. When he got out he married and stayed married for about a year and ended it and disappeared and never spoke to any one in the family after that. I'm hoping someone knows something about him or actually knows where he is. It is a long shot but I told my grandmother I would try for her. Please, if someone can help me please email me, this would be a wonderful Christmas gift to find him or information about him after he disapeared. Thanks a million!

I would like to contact veterans of the 7th Canadian Infantery Brigade who participated in the liberation of the town of Ede (The Netherlands) in mid-June 1945: the Regina Rifles, the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, and the Canadian Scottish Regiment, who were under the command of Brigade Commander Lt. Col. A. S. Gregory. Many of these may still have pictures taken at Ede at that time, and my mother, as a 9-year-old girl, is on many of them. The website URL quoted with this posting has a picture of my mother at age 6, and gives more background information. I am hoping very much that she might be identified on veterans' pictures.
